THE Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) yesterday advised the public to be wary of automated scam telephone calls from local numbers beginning with ‘+673’.

Police said that the caller will give out various instructions in Mandarin once the call is picked up. Although police have not yet received reports of any losses arising from the calls, the public are advised to take extra precautions when answering similar suspicious calls from unknown numbers to safeguard their personal or bank account information from unknown individuals.

The police in the statement issued yesterday also advised financial institutions and remittance companies to ensure their customers observe financial regulations when remitting money overseas.

Customers are also advised to refrain from remitting money on behalf of unknown parties to prevent the public from becoming victims of scams.
