STUDENTS from over 20 primary and secondary schools in the Belait District took part in activities to celebrate World Book Day on April 21 and 23 at the Language and Literature Bureau Library of Kampong Pandan.
The activities held in collaboration with three libraries in Kuala Belait, Seria and the Pandan area included a motivational talk to promote reading among the students, a mini ‘readathon’ challenge, drawing session, spelling bee and quizzes.
The activities were meant to develop and nurture the students’ skills and knowledge along with giving them the opportunity to interact with one another outside the classrooms, as well as raise their interest in reading.
The activities were also held to help promote reading-related services of the library to supplement the students’ knowledge.
By highlighting the importance of reading to the students, the event hoped to help increase awareness on the relevance of books as a mainstream media to help disseminate information to the community.
