Belait celebrates royal birthday with multicultural performances

THE night last Wednesday was loud with cheers and applause as performers from various cultural backgrounds gathered on stage at Tudung Saji, Kuala Belait for the nightly performances in celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s 73rd birthday.

Organised by the Dusun Community and Tiong Hua Association in the Belait District in collaboration with the Malay, Indian, and Iban communities in Belait District, the event saw a series of performances comprising cultural songs, dances and talent shows, by students from Chung Ching Middle School Seria and members from various communities.

Chairman of the Belait District’s Chinese Chambers of Commerce Loo Soon Nin attended as guest of honour.

Chairman of the event Hong Fan Tse explained that the show highlighted the cultural diversity of the district.

The nightly event will continue until July 30.
