Be honest in acquiring sustenance, say Imams

Azlan Othman

Muslim entrepreneurs must ensure their businesses are not against Syariah and the nation’s laws, said the Imams in yesterday’s Friday sermon.

The Imams said that Islam called on the Ummah to obtain sustenance in a halal manner, including through business in which one must be sincere and honest.

Greedy individuals may seek to make a quick buck through cheating and betrayal, said the Imams, adding that businesses should not engage in the sale of haram products such as liquor, stolen and smuggled items.

“Income derived from those haram source will not bring calmness and peace of mind for the family but instead brings sins,” said the Imams.

The Imams said irresponsible people are cheating in import and export activities.

“They bring in contraband goods and do not declare items to authorities. They conceal products to avoid detection at control posts or inspection sites or smuggle in contraband through the jungle or by sea.

“The smugglers or those irresponsible who attempt to bring in goods illegally to the country only think in the short term of obtaining easy profits. They received commission from sales.

However, in the long term, smuggled items can pose danger and bring harm to consumers,” said the Imams

“Businesses should operate in a blessed manner and to avoid any wrongdoings. In acquiring profit, one must be honest and trustworthy to gain blessings of wealth.”
