The Brunei Chess Federation (BCF) has outlined plans to promote chess to every school in Brunei Darussalam following a chess workshop for teachers and students of Cemerlang Abejess Secondary School (SECA) in Kampong Kapok, Muara recently.

Conducted by coach FIDE Master (FM) Aliuddin and Mohammad Shawal, among the objectives of the workshop were to enhance knowledge of the game among teachers, staff and students.

The three-hour workshop provided a basic understanding of how to play chess and fundamental lessons for beginners. The coaches also provided quizzes, exercises and demonstrations on the board.

It provided a fruitful outcome as teachers demonstrated a basic understanding of chess. They believed that they can develop even further with more advanced classes in the future.

The BCF has several certified coaches and intends to conduct more classes in the future as well as develop chess enthusiasts in the country.

Led by SECA Principal Angela Lim Soon Mei, 10 teachers and five students attended the workshop.
