Brunei Basketball Association (BBA) opened their campaign in the 5.11 National Basketball League with a convincing 73-54 victory over Team 409 at the BBA Court in Batu Bersurat last night.
The two teams were both tied 34-34 at one stage at the end of the quarter before BBA pulled away with a series of attacks.
BBA’s Chong Ching Poh played a creative role in the team’s resurgence with a delightful pass to Chris Chiew who made no mistake to convert a shot.
As a Team 409 player leaned forward to find an opening, Chiew intervened with a steal before racing to the other end of the court for a two-pointer to increase his side’s lead.
The team’s attack was as good as defence as Chong made a decisive block before slipping a pass for under-23 player Adam Lee Jun Hong to cap the move off with a fine finish.
BBA took control of the tie as under-23 player Frederick Ko landed a three-pointer to give his team a 12-point advantage.
Chiew contributed with a game-high of 23 points for BBA with Kenny Lim among the team’s top scorers with 11 points.
Meanwhile, Ong Sum Ping defeated Bandar Rocket 75-49 in the second match on Friday.
The competition continues tonight with Yi’s Nation V2 playing against equally unbeaten Belait District Basketball Association (BDBA), while Bandar Rocket face Yi’s Nation, both teams chasing for their first win.
