Belait District Basketball Association (BDBA) formed a new sub-committee focussing on training qualified referees.

This was announced at a dinner gathering at Cheng Hua Restaurant, Seria on Wednesday.

BDBA Chairman Koo Kong Loi and the association’s committee members were present.

Officer-in-charge of the sub-committee Chai Fung Ling said there are seven referees active in BDBA’s competitions but they are advance in age. Therefore, the sub-committee is formed to facilitate youth to take part in refereeing matches and competitions organised by the association.

He said the sub-committee plans to conduct clinics and classes for those interested in refereeing, both theoretical and practical.

Meanwhile, Former BDBA chairman Chai Tze Yun, now an adviser, received a certificate of appreciation from Koo for his contributions.

In a speech, Chai said he hopes the association will continue to promote the sport and try to improve the facilities in the district.
