Bangladeshis top litterbugs

TWENTY-SIX individuals were slapped with a compound fine of BND100 each for violating Minor Offences Act Chapter 30 Section 12 (1) for littering in a public area on Monday at the heart of the capital. The majority of offenders were Bangladeshi nationals.

The compound fine was issued by enforcement personnel of Bandar Seri Begawan (BSB) Municipal Department.

The offenders from Bangladesh were Md Dulal Uddin, Kishor Gain, Nikhil Chandra Ojha, Parves Shikder, Nazim Uddin, Kamal Hossain, Md Mehedi Hasan, Romjan Ali, Md Jowel Miah, Bahar Uddin, Sheakh Md Dolan, Moktar Hosain, Mohammad Saddam Hossen, Mohammed Liton Miah and Mohammad Sokrat Ali.

The seven Indonesians offenders were Mohammad Sai, Sutrisno, Sugianto, Safrudin, Asmali Carsa, Ahmad Fatoni, Huh Driansyah, Jainudin and Teguh.

The remaining two offenders were Saravanan Ramalingam and Mohamed Ali bin Mohamed Esmail from India.

The offenders are required to settle the compound fine at Finance Division, the third floor of the BSB Municipal Department within seven days.

If the individuals fail to settle the fine, the matter will be referred to court. For first-time offenders, the penalty is a fine of BND1,000 or a month imprisonment. For repeat offenders, the punishment is a BND3,000 fine or imprisonment of not more than three months.

The public are reminded to dispose unwanted items at allocated areas and maintain cleanliness.

The Law Enforcement Division will continue to conduct inspections in areas under the jurisdiction of BSB Municipal Department.
