THE Magistrate’s Court yesterday ordered a 52-year-old Bangladeshi man to settle a BND70,000 fine after he pleaded guilty to the possession of smuggled cigarettes.
Hares Late Khalilur Rahman will have to serve 16 months’ jail in default of payment.
Chief Magistrate Pengiran Masni binti Pengiran Haji Bahar heard from the Customs prosecutor that the defendant was arrested at his house in Kampong Lambak when Customs preventive officers inspected his house at 12.38am on June 29.
The officers found 82 cartons and 69 packets of cigarettes in the defendant’s possession at the house.
