Bangladeshi fined for contraband possession

A Bangladeshi who pleaded guilty to the possession of smuggled cigarettes was ordered to settle a BND7,500 fine by the Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

The defendant, Mohammad Sazzad Khan, 32, will serve five months’ jail in default of payment.

The Customs Prosecuting Officer informed Magistrate Hajah Ervy Sufitriana binti Haji Abdul Rahman that the defendant was stopped while driving along the Sungai Akar highway on February 10 where nine cartons of smuggled cigarettes were found during inspection.
