The programme began with the hoisting of the flag at half-mast by High Commissioner of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh to Brunei Darussalam Air Vice Marshal (Rtd) Mahmud Hussain in honour of the souls, which embraced martyrdom on the night of August 15, 1975.

It continued with the recitation of verses from Al-Quran, a one-minute silence in honour of the members and close relatives of Bangabandhu family, and the reading out of messages from Bangladesh’s President, Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and Foreign State Minister.

It ended with a discussion on the lifelong struggle of Bangabandhu, where attendees emphasised the accomplishment of the dreams of the leader to catapult Bangladesh as a developed country by 2030.

Paying homage to the great architect of the independence of Bangladesh, the high commissioner urged all Bangladeshi in Brunei to illuminate young minds with the proper history of the liberation war of Bangladesh and the life of Bangabandhu.

The event concluded with a Khatam Al-Quran and a special prayer seeking blessings from Allah the Almighty for the departed and for the peace and prosperity of the country under the leadership of the Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
