Bandar Rocket ended their campaign in the 5.11 National Basketball League in sixth place out of nine entrants after a 70-67 victory over Team 409 at the Brunei Basketball Association Court in Batu Bersurat last night.

The Rocket collected 11 points after registering their third win in the tournament, three points ahead of Brunei Basketball Association (BBA) and Belait District Basketball Association (BDBA) who played each other in the second match last night.

With both teams currently tied on eight points, the winner of the match in the penultimate day of the competition will take seventh place.

In the second quarter, Team 409 regained the lead by two points 28-26 after Matthew Fong stormed past the defence before converting a two-pointer.

Bandar Rocket, who trailed by four points from the first quarter, enjoyed a bright spell in the second as Asyraf Haji Samin delivered a two-pointer shot to make it 28-28.

Bandar Rocket under-23 player Ahnaf Wazief made a free throw to help his side into a slim lead.

A strong start in the second half helped Bandar Rocket into a nine-point lead which they hung on to the end as Team 409 came just short of an elusive win.

Previously, Bandar Rocket has recorded victories against the BDBA and BBA.

The competition will conclude tonight with Yi’s Nation taking on Yi’s Nation V2 while undefeated Easyway Basketball take on Ong Sum Ping.

League leaders Easyway Basketball sits one point clear of their nearest rivals with 14 points ahead of Yi’s Nation V2 and Yi’s Nation, who are in second and third place, respectively.

Meanwhile, the Brunei Basketball Association (BBA) will be organising the Veteran Basketball Tournament tentatively on May 17 in an effort to promote an active and healthy lifestyle.

Due to resource constraints, BBA is limiting the number of participating teams to eight.

The tournament is open to all Brunei residents with a valid IC or work pass. Participants must be aged 40 and above. Registration is now open and will close on May 12.
