A bakery in the Belait District was found to have violated the Employment Order 2009 for not providing a written service contract to an employee.

The Labour Department in Belait said its law enforcement officers uncovered the violation as a result of an operation carried out last week.

Employers violating the statute are subject to a compound fine of BND600 for the first offence, BND900 for the second and will be brought to court for the third violation, or if they fail to pay the fine.

The Labour Department reminded employers to monitor the welfare of their employees by adhering to the requirements of the Employment Order 2009, which include the preparation of employment contracts and timely payment of wages.
