Badminton tournament champions crowned

His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah binti Pengiran Haji Salleh Ab Rahaman attended the finals of the CHSK Badminton Cup 2021 at the CHSK Badminton Court in Kiudang, Tutong District last night.

Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Muntaqim and Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Anak Muneerah Madhul Bolkiah competed under the banner of Flying Gravity (Waznah) in the under-14 boys’ and girls’ doubles categories.

The four-week long competition featured three different categories targetted various groups – the Student’s Cup, Veteran’s Cup and the Organisation’s Cup.

Flying Gravity emerged champions of the Student’s Cup after defeating CHMSKB (4-2) in the final.

Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Muntaqim and his playing partner Dessen Chung Min Tin clinched the decisive game to win the title after defeating the duo of Anson Lee Sheng and Bryan in straight sets (21-13 21-11).

Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Anak Muneerah and her playing partner Amelda Pong Fui Tzen lost (12-21 16-21) to the pair of Crystal Tan Jin Ni and Ngau Fong Ying.

The men’s doubles (aged 19 and above) moved Flying Gravity within a game of an overall victory after the pair of Darren Chai Chee Hou and Masrur Fuad bin Haji Asmat beat the pair of Awangku Adi Aiman bin Pengiran Haji Jofri and Awangku Adi Nazri bin Pengiran Haji Jofri (21-7 21-6) in the fifth game.

The winning pair forced an error after a long rally to reach set point in an intriguing affair having taken a commanding 11-3 lead in the interval of the second set.

Prior to the final, Flying Gravity enjoyed an unbeaten run in both the group stages and the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, Waznah emerged winners of the Veteran’s Cup final after carrying an unassailable 4-0 lead over Honey Car Smart.

In the Organisation’s Cup, AIA BR-Kelvin Pong won the title after defeating United Fighters 5-1 in the final.

The pair of Ali Darwin bin Haji Bahrun and Haji Zainal Abidin bin Haji Abdul Ghani clinched the decisive game after a (14-21 21-18 21-12) win over the duo of Muizzuddin @ Muhamad Azan bin Haji Othman and Muhammad Azizan Firdaus bin Ali Mustapha.

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin presented prizes to the winners.supported the tournament.
