The field of historical research and writing, particularly in Brunei history, is challenging. This is especially so in the formulation of the history of the Brunei Sultanate, as authors, research authors and researchers lack data and reference material.
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin said this during the launching of the Tarsilah Brunei: Wasilah Ketakhtaan Kesultanan Brunei (1659-1828 Masihi), Jilid III at the Brunei History Centre yesterday, held in conjunction with the 36th National Day celebration.
Brunei History Centre Principal Pehin Jawatan Dalam Seri Maharaja Dato Seri Utama Professor (Dr) Haji Awang Mohd Jamil Al-Sufri bin Begawan Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Seri Paduka Haji Awang Umar is the author of the book.
The minister highlighted that as citizens and residents of the country, it is important to learn its history.
Therefore, it is necessary to expose and disseminate the history to the community, particularly the younger generation, so that it can be taught, referenced and shared. History is not just the torch of life, but also a teacher of life, he said.
The minister hoped the book will serve as an important reference material for students of various educational institutions and library collections. He believed the essence of which is embodied in the book will add a window of thought and perspective in enriching and instilling a love for the king, religion and nation.
The minister praised Pehin Jawatan Dalam Seri Maharaja Dato Seri Utama Professor (Dr) Haji Awang Mohd Jamil Al-Sufri’s passion and hard work, adding that he should be seen as a role model.
‘The fresh and thoughtful ideas as well as strong memories to continue writing the Brunei history for the sake of his fellow citizens to be familiar with the background of their own nation is something that is special to the people of Brunei Darussalam,” he said.
Pehin Jawatan Dalam Seri Maharaja Dato Seri Utama Professor (Dr) Haji Awang Mohd Jamil Al-Sufri is an icon, who can serve as a source of inspiration.
The minister congratulated Pehin Jawatan Dalam Seri Maharaja Dato Seri Utama Professor (Dr) Haji Awang Mohd Jamil Al-Sufri for his never-ending quest to continue writing and sharing the history with the people of Brunei, and introducing it internationally.
He successfully organised and presented the Kesultanan Brunei historical arrangement from 1659 to 1828.
