Over 150 guests attended a Chinese New Year celebration organised by the Foochow Association Kuala Belait on February 28.

Head of the Youth League of the Brunei Fuzhou Shiyyi Association Katherine Hii was present, along with its members and the Foochow Association members.

Chairman of the Foochow Association Tan Tei Tei in his welcoming speech, highlighted the importance of marking the annual occasion with members and families.

He also added that the association conducted various activities this year while adhering to the guidelines set by the Ministry of Health (MoH), “including a visit to the Old Folks Home in Seria to check on the health of its elderly residents and enliven the festive atmosphere of the Chinese New Year celebration for them.”

Tan added, “We are grateful for the support we have received throughout the year, and we hope that this will continue, as your support enables us to continue conducting activities aimed at giving back to the community here in Kuala Belait.”

Among the activities featured at the event included a quiz on topics related to the Chinese New Year celebrations, a calligraphy competition, an appearance of caishen impersonator, which is a mythological figure in the Chinese folklore that brings luck and fortune, and a lucky draw.
