The 37th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit will be held via video link from November 12-15, said Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc will chair the summit and related meetings, according to Vice Spokesperson for the Ministry Duong Hoai Nam in a press briefing on Thursday.
The event will include the ASEAN Summit, the ASEAN-China Summit, the 23rd ASEAN-China-Japan-South Korea Leaders’ Meeting, the 15th East Asia Summit, the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) Summit and the first Women Leaders’ Summit.
Attendees are expected to discuss regional and international issues of common interest, the process of ASEAN’s community building and the role of ASEAN in the post-pandemic era, said Nam.
He also said that ASEAN has completed priorities and initiatives in 2020 on schedule, including the mid-term review on the 2025 ASEAN Community Vision and the review of the implementation of the ASEAN charter.
Meanwhile, he added, the ASEAN COVID-19 Response Fund has raised USD10 million from member countries and partners.
As such, he said, the regional reserve of medical supplies and ASEAN Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) Network for Public Health and new communicable diseases will be launched at the upcoming summit.
