ASEAN reviews progress of AEC Blueprint 2025

The launch of the Mid-Term Review (MTR) Report of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) Blueprint 2025 organised by the ASEAN Secretariat, with the support from ASEAN Regional Integration Support (ARISE) Plus was held virtually on Wednesday.

Permanent Secretary (Economy) at the Ministry of Finance and Economy Dr Hajah May Fa’ezah binti Haji Ahmad Ariffin, in her capacity as Lead of the High-Level Task Force for ASEAN Economic Integration (HLTF-EI) for Brunei Darussalam attended the virtual launch as one of the panellists.

ASEAN Secretary General Dato Paduka Lim Jock Hoi; Deputy Secretary General for ASEAN Economic Community (DSG AEC) Satvinder Singh; Ambassador of the European Union to ASEAN Igor Driesmans; Legislative Council member and ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC) Chair in 2021 Yang Berhormat Siti Rozaimeriyanty binti Dato Seri Laila Jasa Haji Abdul Rahman and stakeholders were also present.

The AEC Blueprint 2025 was adopted by the ASEAN Leaders at the 27th ASEAN Summit on November 22, 2015 in Kuala Lumpur and is aimed towards achieving the vision of having an AEC by 2025.

The objective of the launch of the Mid-Term Review (MTR) Report was to raise the level of awareness and understanding of the ASEAN constituency on the progress made in the first half of implementation of the AEC Blueprint 2025, the areas that need to be improved and recommendations for the way forward.

Dr Hajah May Fa’ezah said the launch of the MTR is timely and highly significant as the group assess the implementation progress of the AEC Blueprint over the last five years and ensure that the association are on the right track towards achieving long term ambitions come 2025. She said it is important for future goals to be ambitious and holistic for ASEAN member states to undertake without creating bigger economic gaps within one another and to progressing the collective efforts and policy responses to build back better and foster greater economic resilience.
