Asean ministers meeting concludes on high note

The 14th ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) convened virtually concluded on a high note yesterday.

Minister of National Defence, Socialist Republic of Vietnam Ngo Xuan Lich chaired the meeting in his capacity as Vietnam ADMM Leader.

Minister of Defence II Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof represented Brunei Darussalam at the meeting. Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Defence Brigadier General (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Shahril Anwar bin Haji Ma’awiah and Director of Defence Policy at the Ministry of Defence Haji Adi Ihram bin Dato Paduka Haji Mahmud also attended.

The ASEAN defence ministers adopted and signed the Joint Declaration of the ADMM on Defence Cooperation for a Cohesive and Responsive ASEAN.

On the sidelines, the ASEAN-United States Defence Ministers’ Informal Meeting was convened before the 14th ADMM, and the ASEAN-China Defence Ministers’ Informal Meeting convened following the conclusion of the 14th ADMM. A special session with guests of the chair was also held to conclude the day’s agenda.

As the Chair of ASEAN in 2021, the Ministry of Defence Brunei Darussalam will chair the ADMM and its related meetings, while the Royal Brunei Armed Forces will chair the ASEAN Chiefs of Defence Forces Meeting (ACDFM) and its related meetings. All meetings will take place virtually.
