THE ASEAN-Korea Tourism Investment Seminar will be taking place on June 8 in Seoul, South Korea and will provide up-to-date information on investment environment and opportunities in tourism industries of the 10 ASEAN member states and hold one-on-one business meetings.

This was announced by the organisers of the event, the ASEAN-Korea Centre, in a press release yesterday, which said that in addition to the seminar, the ASEAN Tourism Promotional Pavilion will be taking place from June 8-10 in Ilsan and will offer public events enabling visitors to enjoy ‘gastronomy tourism’ in ASEAN.

Secretary General of the ASEAN-Korea Centre Lee Hyuk said, “Last year, 9.5 million Korean travellers, accounting for over one third of the country’s entire outbound tourists, visited 10 ASEAN member states. ASEAN became the most popular travel destination for Koreans with its divine nature and unique culture.

“We need to upgrade our partnership that goes beyond simply attracting Korean visitors to the region and achieve growth in both quality and quantity, as well as sustainable development of the ASEAN tourism industry,” continued the secretary general. “In this regard, the two upcoming events will focus on meeting practical needs and key agenda of ASEAN while enhancing win-win cooperation with Korea.

“The Tourism Investment Seminar will contribute to expanding tourism infrastructure of ASEAN which is in dire need, and to provide investment opportunities for Korean companies. On the other hand, the Tourism Promotional Pavilion will diversify and enrich the experience of Korean tourists in ASEAN by promoting ‘gastronomy tourism’, which is a key tourism agenda of ASEAN.”

The ASEAN-Korea Tourism Investment Seminar will be held on June 8 at the Sapphire Ballroom of the Lotte Hotel in Seoul under the theme Tourism Investment Partnership for a Sustainable Future.

The press release explained the seminar will introduce tourism investment environment and opportunities of each ASEAN member state, share a successful case of a Myanmar hotel project by the CEO of Daeweoo Amara, and hold one-on-one business meetings between potential Korean investors and ASEAN member states’ tourism representatives from the public and private sectors.

During the opening session, speeches will be delivered by Lee Hyuk; Secretary General of the Ministry of Tourism and Culture of Malaysia Datuk Rashidi Hasbullah; Deputy Secretary General of ASEAN for ASEAN Economic Community Aladdin D Rillo; and Director General of Tourism Policy Bureau at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Korea Geum Ki-hyung.

Senior Tourism Specialist of the World Bank Group Wouter Schalken will also give a presentation on success factors, tourism environment and growth potential of ASEAN tourism investment. The press release added that the upcoming event will be collaborated by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture of Malaysia as the ASEAN member country coordinator, and supported by the Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Korea Tourism Organization; World Bank Group; ASEAN Secretariat and The Korea Economic Daily.

Meanwhile, the ASEAN Tourism Promotional Pavilion being held at KINTEX Exhibition Centre 1 in Ilsan on June 8-10 will promote ‘gastronomy tourism’ in ASEAN member states by combining its representative food and tourism experiences.

The promotional booth will provide opportunities for the public to learn interesting stories and gain information on 20 dishes from 10 countries. In addition, various tips to travel to ASEAN and gifts will be provided through events such as the ASEAN Snack Drawing, ASEAN Quiz and ASEAN Travel Mobile Application Download Event.
