The second meeting of the ASEAN Senior Economic Officials (SEOM) for the 52nd ASEAN Economic Ministers (AEM) Meeting officially began yesterday via video conference.
Permanent Secretary (Economy) at the Ministry of Finance and Economy Dr Hajah May Fa’ezah binti Haji Ahmad Ariffin chaired the meeting.
Senior Economic Officials from the 10 ASEAN member states and senior officials from the ASEAN Secretariat attended the virtual meeting.
The three-day meeting, in session until tomorrow, is a follow-up to the outcomes and directions by the AEM at the 27th AEM Retreat held virtually on March 2-3.
The meeting welcomed the steady progress of the Priority Economic Deliverables (PEDs) under Brunei Darussalam’s ASEAN Chairmanship of ASEAN in 2021, where SEOM endorsed one of the PEDs on Non-Tariff Measures Toolkit (NTM Toolkit).
The meeting discussed 2021 Annual Priorities and endorsed progress reports of sectoral bodies under the SEOM’s purview.
SEOM also discussed the progress of implementation of post COVID-19 recovery efforts including initiatives under the ASEAN Comprehensive Recovery Framework (ACRF).
The meeting exchanged views on the way forward, towards enhancing ASEAN’s economic relations with its dialogue partners, including Canada, People’s Republic of China, India, Japan, Republic of Korea and the United States, in preparation for the SEOM – Dialogue Partners’ Consultations on June 14 – 15.
