Legislative Council (LegCo) member Yang Berhormat Hajah Safiah binti Sheikh Haji Abdul Salam said by working collectively, sharing best practices and a strong legal framework, ASEAN will be able to effectively deal with the threat of dangerous drugs and protect the citizens’ well-being.

She said this when LegCo members attended the 6th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) Advisory Council on Dangerous Drugs (AIPACODD) meeting in Bogor, Indonesia from May 29 to June 1.

The meeting, attended by over 25 Members of Parliament from the AIPA, saw the presentation of a country report on the current situation of trafficking and drugs, national laws and policies, law enforcement, regional and international cooperation, as well as other actions taken to combat drugs and their trafficking.

The meeting also discussed a draft resolution titled ‘Supporting Inclusive Economic Growth for Drug-Free ASEAN’.

Yang Berhormat Hajah Safiah and Yang Berhormat Haji Mohd Salleh bin Haji Othman led the Brunei delegation.

At the last session of the meeting, a draft resolution on ‘Supporting Inclusive Economic Growth for Drug-Free ASEAN’ was agreed to be presented during the 44th AIPA General Assembly in August.
