The Language and Literature Bureau’s (DBP) Arts Aspiration Gala 2022 came to an end yesterday. The three-day event, which kicked off on September 6, was a core activity under the Literature and Malay Cultural Arts Festival to mark the Language Month 2022 at Sarmayuda Hall of the DBP in Airport Lama, Berakas.

Activities featured included mini fiction writing workshops, multimedia poetry reading and stage shows on contributions by writers’ associations and arts enthusiasts.

Acting Director of DBP Suip bin Haji Abdul Wahab said the Arts Aspiration Gala attracted 670 people who enjoyed the many activities and exhibitions lined up for the event. He also noted that the event showcased that art is not just limited to literature and writing but is highly dynamic and adaptable to the modern world.

The incorporation of multimedia into traditional poetry is a prime example as it adds meaning, he said.

The highlight of the final day was the finals of the multimedia poetry reading during which Mohammad Riduwan bin Johari was named the champion with his reading of Pintu Waktu.

Lenna Norsusilanita binti Bahari was placed second with her rendition of Jiwa di Pesisir while ALMAS Group came in third with their rendition of Inikah Remaja?

On hand to present prizes to the winners was Permanent Secretary (Culture) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Pengiran Haji Mohd Hasnan bin Pengiran Haji Ali Hassan.

The ceremony saw the presentation of certificates and souvenirs to 18 performers, 10 exhibition participants, 31 fiction writing workshop participants, and three multimedia poetry reading competition judges.
