The first phase for the establishment of an Art and Culture Academy has been completed with the finalisation framing of its curriculum and will be completed in phases.
This was said by Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Yang Berhormat Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin. He was responding to a query by Legislative Council (LegCo) member Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Putera Maharaja Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Ghani bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Dewa Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Rahim during the 18th LegCo Meeting on Tuesday regarding the progress of the Art and Culture Academy.
“With the finalisation of the framing of the academy’s curriculum, the next phase will focus on establishing the infrastructure of the Art and Culture Academy,” said the minister.
A location has been determined which is being monitored by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS). The minister said the Art and Culture Academy is one of the main goals of the MCYS and is aimed at fulfilling the country’s aspirations to uphold the art and culture heritage, provide employment and contribute to the country’s economy through the creative and art industry.
The ministry will provide updates on the development of the Art and Cuture Academy.
The minister said several gallery spaces are set to open soon – Dermaga Diraja and the exhibition space at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium.
“These galleries are hoped to provide a space for members of the creative industry to showcase their works,” said the minister.
