THE Arabic Language Celebration marked every December 18 around the world, jointly organised by the Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB), Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) and Brunei Branch Al-Azhar International Rabitah Alumni concluded yesterday.
The guest of honour Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Brunei Darussalam Emad bin Abdul Aziz bin Saad Al Muhanna presented certificates of appreciation to participants and prizes to winners of activities carried out throughout the celebration at the Jubilee Hall of UNISSA.
Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs Dato Seri Setia Haji Abdul Aziz bin Orang Kaya Maharaja Lela Haji Yussof, in his capacity as the Ra’es of the Brunei Branch Al-Azhar International Rabitah Alumni Executive Committee, Ra’es of KUPU SB Dr Haji Adanan bin Haji Basar, Rector of UNISSA Dr Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal and other senior officials from KUPU SB and UNISSA were also present.
Yesterday’s closing ceremony was further enlivened with performances by winners of activities competed from February 12-14.
Themed Lughatuz Zikri fi Daulatiz Zikr (Zikir Language in Zikir Nation), the celebration is hoped to draw more interests of the community including local students and teachers and to be more sensitive on the importance of the language not only as a knowledge language but also civilisation language.
The celebration to be held annually included various activities such as Arabic Language Creativity exhibition, stage drama, workshop, forum, Khat Hawi competition, Maqalah writing, story-telling, acting, Khitabah, Qira’ah, Tausyeh, Imla’ and Mufradat.
This year’s celebration also saw the participation of students from Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, Arabic and religious schools in the country as well as several selected schools under the Ministry of Education and the public.
