I read with great interest of an article published in the Borneo Bulletin recently regarding patients in other countries being prescribed medicines, which are antidepressants, for pain and lack of sleep.
This can cause problems for patients as it can cause addiction, anxiety and depression.
One cannot go ‘cold turkey’ and would have to undergo a detox programme which can last over several months. Sadly, doctors may not tell patients that the medicine is an antidepressant but simply reads as painkillers or etc.
To my understanding, here in Brunei Darussalam, antidepressants cannot be bought over the counter and only be taken from government health centres.
I would like to know if private clinics are able to prescribe antidepressants and if authorities are keeping this in check.
