The food judging event organised by the Brunei Food Awards (BFA) continued yesterday for the Brunei-Muara District at PappaRich restaurant in Gadong, with Turkish Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Mehmet Suat Akgün as the special judge.

The ambassador was welcomed by the Business Development Manager of Satami Group of Companies Pacoi Abdullah. She said it is an honour for the restaurant to have been invited to the first food award of its kind in Brunei that recognises and formally awards the best dishes of both local and international cuisines.

“This was an opportunity not to be missed for PappaRich to be in the know and we are very pleased. We hope this collaboration will continue for a long time,” he added.

Satami Group of Companies Managing Director Stephanie Chan Fui Meng briefed the envoy on the history of PappaRich as the judges tested the dishes in the competition including Hainan Toast with Butter and Kaya, Naan with Minced Chicken and Cheese, Hainan French Toast with Kaya and Peanut Butter, Nasi Lemak with Fried Chicken, Nasi Lemak with Curry Chicken and Sweet & Spicy Sotong, and Kway Teow Beef with Ginger.

The Brunei Food Awards aims to promote and invigorate the growth of the local food and beverage industry. It also recognises and formally awards the best of both local and international cuisines in all four districts.

BFA emphasises on transparent judging activities as an integral part of the awards, where four certified judges including one special judge, evaluate and score the dishes submitted for the contest.

The dish with the highest score will be named Best Dish of 2020.

The evaluation of dishes is based on the EAT Methodology standard utilised by the World Food Championships that takes into account execution, appearance and taste of the dish.

To qualify as a judge, one must undergo and pass an examination that is set by the World
Food Championships.

Nearly 100 eateries and over 200 dishes have been scored and evaluated so far, while 200 more are expected to be evaluated this month before the official BFA ceremony, expected to take place in December.

BFA will organise a food presentation event at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism Hall on October 22.
