Almost BND250,000 of Zakat Fitrah collected using online methods

Zakat Fitrah totalling BND246,546.77 were collected via Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) QuickPay, eZakat DST, Perbadanan Tabung Amanah Islam Brunei (TAIB) Zakat Fitrah Online Banking and Progresif PAY this year.

The Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB) introduced the online payment of Zakat Fitrah this year.

The handing-over of Zakat Fitrah collected was held at the Ministry of Religious Affairs building yesterday.

Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman as the MUIB President received the mock cheques.

Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs and MUIB Deputy President Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar; TAIB Managing Director Datin Hajah Hasnah binti Haji Ibrahim; DST Chief Executive Officer Radin Sufri bin Radin Basiuni; BIBD Managing Director and CEO Mubashar Khokhar; and Progresif Sdn Bhd CEO Hajah Nurul Haniah binti Haji Jaafar were also present.

The Zakat Fitrah money will be distributed among the poor, destitute, Muslim converts, Al-Gharimin, Amil and Ibnu Sabil.

Mubashar Khokhar said, “Over 6,000 users chose to pay their Zakat Fitrah via BIBD QuickPay, signalling the country’s growing acceptance of cashless payment methods. This initiative shows how digital payments can bring greater ease and convenience in many different aspects of society, and we are honoured to support the Ministry of Religious Affairs on this.”
