Almerez FC star Muhammad Nasy’rul Wafiy bin Haji Hassan is currently attending a two-week trial at Malaysian futsal club KL City FC.
The local player has gained a reputation as one of the leading talents in the country after winning the Brunei Futsal Cup 2022 Top Scorer last August.
Almerez FC Head Coach Pengiran Haji Kamarunsalehin bin Pengiran Haji Kamis said, “We are very happy and proud for him.
“It’s a great opportunity for him to train with professionals in KL City FC and if they decide to select him as their import player, Wafiy would then have the opportunity to play in the Malaysia Premier Futsal League 2023.”
The Bruneian will only be the second player to undergo a trial for an overseas club, joining the footsteps of his teammate Radhi Radhuan, who went on to represent the Sarawak United FC as an import in the Malaysia Premier Futsal 2020.
The national futsal league was eventually cancelled that year at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, but Radhi made his debut against Pahang Rangers in his sole appearance for the club in March 2020.
During the tie, he came close to providing an assist after setting up Fitri Zoll, who inadvertently attempted a shot wide.
The two-week trial is slated to end on November 29.
