Over 800 census officers will be involved in the Third Stage of Population and Housing Census (BPP) 2021: Face-to-Face Interview for Brunei Darussalam from August 2 to 29, according to the Department of Economic Planning and Statistics (DEPS) under the Ministry of Finance and Economy (MoFE) yesterday.

The officers have been appointed as assistant superintendents, chief supervisors, supervisors and enumerators to conduct census field work in all four districts. During the period of the Third Stage of BPP 2021, they will visit families or households not covered during Stage 2 of the BPP 2021: e-Census Implementation.

An oath-taking ceremony for appointed census officers of BPP 2021 was held at the BRIDEX Conference Hall in Jerudong yesterday.

DEPS Director General Hajah Mariah binti Haji Yahya was the guest of honour.

According to DPES, training sessions for the census officers were conducted on July 22, 24 and 26, to brief on the tasks and responsibilities; provide guidance on the use of the census questionnaire form; and to brief on the etiquette and disciplinary practice of a census officer, especially during interviewing households.

BPP 2021 covers all persons, be they Brunei Darussalam citizens, permanent residents or temporary residents, according to their place of residence, who have stayed or intend to stay as members of the household for a period of six months or more, in 2021.

Public support and cooperation in providing accurate data is required, including owners or managers of business establishments in ensuring that their workers – especially foreign workers – are enumerated in the census at their living quarters.

Heads or members of households are advised to ensure that the census officers that visit their houses are legitimately appointed by checking their census passes, letter of appointment and identity cards.

BPP 2021 is conducted under Chapter 78 of the Census Act from the Laws of Brunei Darussalam. The Census Act makes it obligatory for the public to answer all questions, while guaranteeing the confidentiality of the supplied information.
