Al-Quran recitation contest winners feted

Haji Awang Norasilin bin Haji Awang Puting, with a score of 92.35, and Husna binti Basuri, scoring 89.75 were placed first in the fifth edition of the Al-Quran Reading Competition for men and women aged 40 and above from mosques, suraus, and religious halls nationwide on Saturday in conjunction with the 39th National Day celebration.

Haji Mohd Hendra bin Haji Meraji came in second, scoring 89.5, and Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji Abdul Mana was placed third with a score of 89.13.

Meanwhile, Hajah Harteenah binti Haji Metussin came in second place, scoring 86.38, followed by Hajah Norzirwatul Fadhillah binti Haji Puteh in third with a score of 84.35.

The competition, organised by the Mosque Affairs Department and Mohammad Jamalul Alam Mosque Takmir Committee, began on February 9.

Twenty-seven qari and 17 qariah competed in men’s and women’s categories at the Mohammad Jamalul Alam Mosque’s hall in Kuala Belait.

Acting Belait District Officer Haji Amirol Hafidzin bin Haji Muhammad presented the prizes on Saturday.

The competition aimed to promote the knowledge of the proper recitation of Al-Quran and to realise the Sultanate’s vision of a Zikir Nation.
