Al-Quran reading competition winners awarded

Haji Sulaiman bin Ibrahim and Masitoh binti Sukyad won the hearts of the judges and were named champions of the Murattal Recitation of Surah Yaasiin and Surah Al-Mulk Competition organised for the first time by Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Mosque, Kampong Rimba yesterday.

Haji Sulaiman scored 91 per cent while Masitoh scored 92.5 per cent.

Acting Director of Mosque Affairs at the Ministry of Religious Affairs Haji Amir Hisham bin Haji Masri presented the prizes.

Coming in second place in the male category was Haji Ahmad bin Haji Raini followed by Johari bin Mohd Salleh.

Hajah Dayang binti Md Salleh was the second place winner in the female category while Pungut binti Ahmad in third spot.

The competition was organised to mark the Israk Mikraj celebration and was opened to members of the mosque Takmir committee and Muslimah group aged 50 and above.

It was also held to nominate participants to represent the mosque at district-and national- level competitions.

The event also served to answer His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s call in enlivening the mosque as a congregant friendly place that promotes deep understanding of Murattal.
