Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji Abdul Manaf from Islamic Studies Unit of Curriculum Development Department emerged as the champion of the male category in the Ministry of Education Al-Quran Reading Competition for 1441 Hijrah / 2019 finals, while, Pengiran Dr Hajah Norkhairiah binti Pengiran Haji Hashim from Halalan Thayyiban Research Centre of Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) grabbed the top spot in the female category.
The competition was held at the main hall of the Curriculum Development Department’s new building at the Ministry of Education.
The guest of honour, Acting Minister of Education Datin Seri Paduka Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh presented the awards and certificates to the participants.
The competition was organised by the Department of Schools and was open to all officers, teachers and staff under the Ministry of Education, including religious teachers at educational institutions under the ministry.
The competition saw four Qari and seven Qariah in the preliminary round where three Qari and three Qariah proceeded to the finals.
The objectives were to realise His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s vision to make the country a Zikir Nation.
The competition also serves to enhance the Al-Quran reading skills of the officers, teachers and staff of the Ministry of Education and to promote the practice and understanding of the teaching in Al-Quran.
Acting Permanent Secretary (Core Education) at the Ministry of Education Aliuddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the Ministry of Education Dr Chin Wei Keh, Rector of UNISSA Norarfan bin Haji Zainal, Acting Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) Haji Ady Syarmin bin Haji Mohd Taib, Acting Director-General of Education Hajah Anis Faudzulani binti Haji Dzulkiflee, heads of departments, school leaders, officers and staff of the ministry were also present.
