THE semi-final contestants for the National Al-Quran Memorising and Understanding Competition was announced during an event at the hall of Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah recently.

The semi-finals were held for three days (March 5-7) and present to hand over souvenirs was the Deputy Permanent Secretary (Policy and Religious) at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Haji Mohd Serudin bin Haji Timbang.

The Ministry of Religious Affairs through the Al-Quran Studies and Dissemination Centre (MABIMS) organised the preliminary round of the National Al-Quran Memorising and Understanding Competition in five categories last January.

After the preliminary round, 60 participants entered the semi-finals. Only five contestants who score 75 per cent from each category will be selected to enter the final round.

Among the objectives of organising such competition is to encourage Muslims to get acquainted with Al-Quran by memorising it and to make a daily routine to recite it.

It is also to gain rewards from Allah the Almighty and to encourage the participants to understand the meaning of Al-Quran including facts of the verses, advice and lessons as well as Tajwid.
