The Ministry of Education (MoE) through the Department of Special Education, yesterday held the finals of an Al-Quran memorisation competition for students with special needs in government primary schools nationwide at Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha Arabic Religious Secondary School.
Deputy Permanent Secretary (Core Education) at the MoE Aliuddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman presented prizes and certificates of participation.
The competition was organised for the second time by the Department of Special Education, which drew the participation of 40 students with special needs from 25 primary schools.
Six male and six female students from 10 government primary schools entered the final stage.
The ceremony started with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat followed by the competition and prize presentation.
The first place was won by Md Wadihan Azhar bin Rosihan @ Daniyal from Sengkurong Primary School in the male category, with first and second runners-up being Md Qais Zulqarnain bin Md Hadi Sumardi from Awang Mohd Yusof Primary School and Md Aniq Zawirhaq bin Md Aman from Kapok Muara Primary School.
Meanwhile, Rabiatul Adawiyah binti Rusman from Katok ‘B’ Primary School in the female category, with Siti Nur Aisyah binti Abdullah from Datu Ratna Haji Muhammad Jaafar Kiarong Primary School and Nur Aziathul Farwizah binti Md Azizan from Lambak Kanan Jalan 49 Primary School in second and third place.
The ceremony ended with a Tausyeh performance titled Selawat Allahul Kafi by eight students with special needs from Pintu Malim Primary school.
Among the main objectives of the competition were to integrate the reading of Al-Quran into the daily routine and foster a deeper understanding of the holy verses among the students.
It also serves to uphold inclusive education, particularly the ‘APA’ principle, namely access, participate and achieve to ensure that students with special needs have equal opportunities including mastering the recitation of Al-Quran.
Also present at the competition were heads of departments and senior officials from the MoE, school leaders and parents.
