Aiding the less fortunate

In conjunction with the holy month of Ramadhan, donations continue to be distributed in the Sultanate to those in need.

A total of 150 families from across the country received financial contributions and food necessities amounting to BND162,500 from Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (Yayasan), under Ihsan Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah yesterday.

A delegation from Yayasan, was led by Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Defence II Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof as the Chairman of the Yayasan Board of Directors visiting several households in the Brunei-Muara District to present aid.

Also present was Permanent Secretary (Planning, Land Use and Environment) at the Ministry of Development and Acting Managing Director of Yayasan Dr Nor Imtihan binti Haji Abdul Razak.

In the Tutong District, the delegation was led by Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin as his capacity as a member of the Yayasan Board of Directors.

In the Temburong district, the delegation was led by Minister of Education and Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh as a member of Yayasan Board of Directors.

Meanwhile, five families in the Belait District received aid from the Yayasan, led by Attorney General and member of Yayasan Board of Directors Dato Seri Paduka Haji Ahmad bin Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Bakti Di-Raja Dato Laila Utama Haji Awang Isa.

One of the recipients was Kampong Sungai Teraban fisherman Haji Noh bin Junaidi.

Speaking to the Bulletin, he expressed his gratitude to His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam for the donation.

With a family of nine, the 50-year-old said the donation will help to lessen his family’s financial burden as they prepare for the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.

Another recipient was Mohamad Shahari bin Md Sani who has been wheel-chair bound since 2020. He also expressed his gratitude to His Majesty and Yayasan for the aid.

Meanwhile, the Village Consultative Council of Kampong Bukit Beruang and Bukit Beruang Asal Housing Scheme also held a donation presentation for orphans and selected residents on Sunday.

Fifty orphans received cash and basic necessities from Acting Tutong District officer Mohammad Sofian bin Haji Basri.

Forty selected families also received Raya assistance, handed over by Legislative Council Member Yang Berhormat Haji Mohammad Danial @ Tekpin bin Ya’akub.

Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien (SOASC) College held the second year of its charitable drive, the Al ‘Amalil Amal Project.

Members of the SOASC Alumni of Class 64 and the Brunei Graduates Association organised a donation presentation at the college’s administration room.

Some 65 less fortunate students received donations from deputy principals of SOAS College Zulhisyam Shah bin Haji Napiah and Krestina binti Haji Daud.

Meanwhile, Kampong Lambak Youth Association (PERBEKAL) held its annual Tedarus last Thursday at the residence of Kampong Lambak Kanan Village Head Pengiran Jofri bin Pengiran Haji Zaidi.

This year, the ceremony was carried out in collaboration with the Consultative Council Lambak Kanan (MPK Lambak Kanan).

Around 100 attendees made up of members of PERBEKAL and MPK Lambak Kanan were present during the ceremony. The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah followed by a mass recitation of Surah Adh-Dhuha.

Doa Takhtim, Tahlil and Doa Selamat were also held, read by Abdul Qayum bin Mohd Nazri.

It concluded with the presentation of donations to five orphans.

The donations are aimed to elevate the burden of the orphans during the holy month of Ramadhan and help them prepare for the upcoming Hari Raya celebrations.
