Aewon Badminton Open kicks off

The Aewon Badminton Open Championship 2019 kicked off with the men’s doubles event at the Multipurpose Hall of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex last night.

Organised by Aewon Brunei with the support of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and the Brunei Darussalam National Badminton Association, the tournament attracted more than 400 participants including neighbouring states from Miri.

The tournament will feature seasoned players from the country eager to cement a place in the final, which is scheduled to take place on November 23.

Also participating in the tournament is Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Muntaqim ibni Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Paduka Seri Pengiran Muda Mahkota Pengiran Muda Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, who will be competing in the Men’s Singles (Under-12) and Men’s Doubles (Under-12) scheduled on November 18 and 22, respectively.

The tournament will be contested in a knock-out format and is divided into eight categories namely Men’s Singles (Under-12) and Men’s Doubles (Under-12), Men’s Doubles Open A, Men’s Doubles Open B, Men’s Singles Open, Women’s Doubles Open, Mixed Doubles Open and Veteran’s Doubles Open.

Champions, runners-up and semi-finalists from each category will receive cash prizes and medals.
