Additional statements collected in fatal food poisoning case

GOMBAK (ANN/THE STAR) – Malaysian police have recorded statements from 22 individuals in connection with the fatal food poisoning incident that claimed two lives after a school event in Gombak, Selangor.

The latest statements were obtained from seven individuals, including the headmaster and teachers from the school in Sungai Chinchin. Gombak OCPD Asst Comm Noor Ariffin Mohamad Nasir confirmed this development to the media via text message on Thursday.

The investigation papers will be forwarded to the deputy public prosecutor once the full autopsy report is released, a process expected to take about a month.

The food poisoning incident occurred when family members consumed food brought back from the school event on June 8.

A 17-year-old boy and a two-year-old girl died days later after eating a meal of fried bihun and eggs served at the event.

Selangor state Health director Dr Ummi Kalthom Shamsudin stated earlier that the meal was catered by an external party. Out of the 247 people who consumed the meal, 82 (33 per cent) showed symptoms of food poisoning.
