Sayyidina Ali Secondary School (SMSA) organised a Family Day celebration at its school premises yesterday.
It was held in conjunction with the school’s 25th anniversary.
The guest of honour, Acting Director of Schools at the Ministry of Education Zainal Abidin bin Haji Kipli was welcomed by school’s Principal Steven Shim Sheua Huei, Senior Leader’s Team and Chairman of the school’s Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) Nordin bin Haji Zainal.
Steven Shim, in his opening speech, spoke about the school’s history.
He said that the name change from Kampong Pandan Secondary School to Sayyidina Ali Secondary School was made official by former Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Pehin Orang Kaya Digadong Seri Lela Dato Seri Paduka (Dr) Haji Awang Hussin bin Pehin Orang Kaya Digadong Seri Diraja Dato Laila Utama Haji Mohammad Yusof on August 3, 1996.
The school saw several changes to accommodate the need to support the students, and by 1998; SMSA was also a Sixth Form centre.
The ceremony proceeded with the official launching by the guest of honour.
The event also saw the presentation of prizes to winners of several competitions in conjunction with the Silver Jubilee Celebration including photography and logo creation competition.
It also saw the unveiling of the school’s first Hydroponics Garden launched by the guest of honour. The guest of honour visited the Art and Photo Gallery, and the Creative Room for the kids.
It showcases the talents of the students and a trip down memory lane which saw former teachers and alumni participating.
Over 200 parents and guardians of the students, former leaders, teachers, staff and school alumni participated in several games and activities.
Vendors selling various products were also present.
