ABDUL Malik Al Mukkaramah lifted the most reps to win the ‘Challenge Your Limit’ Powerlifting Competition at the Pusat Insani Multi-Purpose Hall last Sunday.
The winner managed 124 lifts in three types of lifts in sequence – 30kg Squat, followed by a 40kg bench press and 50kg dead-lift. Mohd Ibnur Waie bin Ali won second place with 115 lifts, while Al-Muqaddim @ Muhammad Abdul Muqaddim bin Zamri clinched third with 109 lifts.
The competition, organised by The Den gym for the first time, saw 24 participants competing. It aims to develop the skills of weightlifters in the country by pitting them against one another in a friendly bout, as well as to help raise awareness of the sport of weightlifting.
Local weightlifting and bodybuilding powerhouses Razali bin Mahmud and Wadud bin Haji Abu Bakar were the guest of honours. They were welcomed by Gym Manager of The Den Hannafy bin Mohd Henry; and Operation Manager of Plaza Sutera Biru Gary Yang.
Winners receive their prizes from the guest of honours and Gym Manager of The Den. All participating weightlifters also received certificates of participation.
Hannafy expressed his joy in seeing such a huge turnout from across the country. He said with such a positive response and support, such a competition will hopefully continue in the future, with plans to include more categories of weightlifting to ensure that participants of all gender and physique are able to participate.
