Gyms and fitness centre owners welcomed the upgrading of the centres from phase 3 to phase 4 of the de-escalation plan from July 27.

Owner of a gym and fitness centre in Lambak Kanan Pengiran Hamdani bin Pengiran Haji Ismail said he was relieved after the announcement was made and informed regular gym goers that his centre will operate at 100 per cent normal capacity.

Asked if the pandemic outbreak affected his business, Pengiran Hamdani said, “When it was instructed to close gyms and fitness centres, we maintained the business with much hardship. We are thankful that we can operate as usual,” he said.

When restrictions were relaxed, Pengiran Hamdani said his centre saw regular gym members coming back.

“As for now, with the easing of restrictions under the fourth phase of the de-escalation plan, we are relieved as we can accommodate most of our customers,” Pengiran Hamdani said.

“Even though the fourth phase allows more customers, we explained to them that we will implement all safety measures as advised by the Ministry of Health (MoH),” he added.

“We also explained to our customers that they need to bring their own belt, glove and other equipment. Any equipment at the gym can only be used by one person at one time. Used equipment will be sanitised immediately.”

As they are expecting more gym goers, Pengiran Hamdani also said they will ensure the customers practise safety measures as advised by the Ministry of Health (MoH).

“We will conduct body temperature checks, scan the BruHealth QR code and also ensure that they don’t have fever, flu or showing any symptoms,” he said.

The fourth phase of the de-escalation plan announcement was made by Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin on Wednesday.
