The Foochow Association held a Chinese New Year celebration at its main building in Kuala Belait on Saturday.
The event was organised by the association’s Women and Youth Group as an annual activity for members and their families to spend quality time participating in games and appreciating performances.
Head of the Youth Group Foo Kian Ming said, “The past three years had been tumultuous due to the pandemic, but thanks to the efforts of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and the government, the association as well as the nation are able to organise festive gatherings again.”
Association chairman Tan Tei Tei shared the same sentiment and hoped that the activities conducted will be cherished, especially among the children.
The event also featured a lion dance performance.
The mythological figure in Chinese culture Cai Shen Ye also greeted the children and attendees, followed by the presentation of ang pow to the children as well as a lucky draw for the attendees.
