A day of sacrifice and prayer

Communities and organisations around the country marked Hari Raya Aidiladha with prayers and Korban ceremonies yesterday.

Minister of Development Dato Seri Setia Ir Awang Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar attended a Korban ceremony organised by members of the Brunei Photographic Society (PFNBD) yesterday.

The ceremony was hosted at the home of Executive Committee member of the PFNBD Haji Ali Hamzah bin Gafar in Kampong Bengkurong. For the ceremony, three buffaloes were sacrificed and distributed to 36 recipients from the village.

At the Indonesian Embassy, hundreds of Indonesian citizens working and residing in the country joined in the mass prayer organised by the embassy at its compound in the Diplomatic Enclave yesterday.

The mass prayer was held in observance of COVID-19 health protocols, such as limiting the number of people (maximum 1,000 people), body temperature checks, registering on BruHealth via QR Code when entering the Indonesian Embassy complex, bringing personal prayer mats and wearing masks.

Alhamdulillah, this year, the situation is better, so the Indonesian Embassy can hold Aidiladha prayer again with Indonesian citizens,” said Indonesian Ambassador to Brunei, Dr Sujatmiko.

Enthusiasm was clearly visible on the faces of the Indonesian citizens who attended the mass prayer yesterday where the event strengthens friendships and as a way to cope with homesickness.

The prayer was led by Ajid Osman Hambali and Professor Anis Malik Thoha, an Indonesian lecturer who teaches at the Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA).

In his sermon, Profesor Anis invited the congregrants to be grateful for the blessings that Allah the Almighty has given, especially health, and to pray together for Indonesia which is now struggling against the high number of COVID-19 cases.

Meanwhile, the High Commission of Malaysia in Bandar Seri Begawan, in collaboration with Persatuan Kebajikan Melayu SeMalaysia, organised a Korban ceremony at the High Commission of Malaysia building near Jalan Kebangsaan.

Four cows were sacrificed. More than 100 packs of meat were distributed to the underprivileged and the other 100 packs among Malaysians.

Chargé d’Affaires at the High Commission of Malaysia Nadia Azura binti Mohd Nudri helped distribute the meat. The recipients list was provided by the Kampong Pulaie Mosque.

The ceremony was also attended by 150 Malaysians residing and working inthis country.

The Ministry of Defence (MinDef) and Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) celebrated Hari Raya Aidil Adha with prayers at Surau Ad-Difa’, Bolkiah Garrison yesterday.

The function started with the Takbir and followed by the Sunnat Hari Raya Aidiladha prayer led by Imam of Ad-Difa’ Surau Zulfadli bin Haji Awang.

The function was then followed by a special Aidiladha sermon by Imam Suhif @ Syu’aib bin Haji Abdullah, Imam Surau Ad-Difa.

Chief of Staff of RBAF Colonel (U) Rahman @ Abdul Rahman bin Haji Durahman, directors, officers and personnel of the MinDef and RBAF were present.

In Belait District, Serikandi Group of Companies (GoC) sacrificed two buffaloes as part of their Korban ceremony.

The meat distribution was held at the Brunei Shell Recreational Club (BSRC), Seria.

Belait District Officer Ramlee bin Haji Jamudin distributed the Korban meat as the guest of honour. Serikandi Group’s Chairman and Managing Director Shaikh Haji Khalid bin Shaikh Haji Ahmad, Acting Chairman of the Kuala Belait and Seria Municipal Board, Haji Azmi bin Haji Abdul Rahim; Penghulu Mukim, Village Heads, as well as officers and staff members from the various branches of the Serikandi GoC were present.

Shaikh Haji Khalid said that the occasion was an opportunity to help further strengthen the bonds, while also maintaining the company’s yearly tradition.

The ceremony saw the echoes of Takbir led by the Mosque Affairs Officer at the Muhammad Jamalul Alam Mosque, Imam Haji Alias bin Bakar; which was followed by the recitation of Doa Kesyukuran by Mosque Affairs Officer at the Muhammad Jamalul Alam Mosque, Imam Akup bin Haji Lamat.

Malar Setia Group of Companies and Salma Jaya Sdn Bhd held a company event marking Hari Raya Aidiladha at Dewan Salma 2, Impiana Jaya Complex, Kiulap.

Malar Setia Group of Companies Managing Director Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji Metassim and Salma Jaya Sdn Bhd Managing Director Haji Abdullah bin Haji Metassim were present at the ceremony.
