A closer look at the wonders of night sky

The Astronomical Unit at the Survey Department organised a ‘Planet Visible, Above & Beyond’ sky-gazing event at Menara Cendera Kenangan in Kuala Belait on Saturday night.

Over 50 staff from the department manned rows of telescopes to help the public get a closer look at planets and the moon.

Acting Surveyor in the Belait District Noor Azlin bin Haji Mohammad said the event was held to allow astronomy enthusiasts to gather and share their passion with the public, while serving to inspire the district’s youth and children.

Among the highlights were the observation of neighbouring planets Saturn, Jupiter, Venus and Mars.

The moon was also in perfect viewing condition as it was the night of the full moon.

The agency hoped to promote an appreciation for what is hidden in plain sight among the next generation of skygazers.
