Alliance Française in-collaboration with 247 Studios will take centre stage an all-women cast as they perform a murder-mystery play 8 Women on Februrary 14 at Tarindak D’Seni, Bandar Seri Begawan.
The production is part one of the activities lined up for the upcoming Francophonie Week 2020, which will officially kick off on March 20.
Alliance Française Director Ayrine Jammes said the play is based on a book written by Robert Thomas 1958 and brought to the screen by François Ozon in 2002. It entails a tragedy coupled with police intrigue against the backdrop of family.
Set in France in the 1950’s, eight women from the same family are isolated in a house during winter during which each of them comes to suspect the other of killing the master of the house.
Each performer will be spectacularly elevated by costumes made by Cambodia-based French Designer Éric Raisina.
The play is directed by Joanna Kwan, making it her second directorial gig. She said that she is honoured to have been entrusted with such a huge role. “It is a huge honour to be entrusted with directing a murder-mystery play.”
The cast, mainly made up of amateur actors, were given classes with the vocal coach from Neo Classic Music School as well as Charlotte Lim of D’Music Motion Fitness Studio.
Francophonie Week 2020 will emphasise, in particular, the cultural and artistic cooperation between Brunei and France.
La Francophonie is manifested in exchange, dialogue and interaction between two rich, heterogeneous cultures whose mutual curiosity has given rise to an unprecedented cultural and scenic event.
