THE opening ceremony for the 27th Executive Development Programme for Senior Government Officers (EDPSGO) and Middle Management Officers (EDPMMO), organised by the Institute of Leadership, Innovation and Advancement (ILIA), in collaboration with the Public Service Department, was held at the Lecture Theatre, The Core, Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) last Saturday.
Permanent Secretary (Media and Cabinet) at the Prime Minister’s Office Mohamed Riza bin Dato Paduka Haji Mohamed Yunos was the guest of honour.
Acting Director of ILIA Dr Jainatul Halida binti Haji Jaidin was also present.
Twenty-nine senior government and 31 middle management officers from various ministries participated in the programme, which will run for 12 weeks.
EDPSGO 2019 participants will engage in learning experiences that will help them develop a better understanding of how digitisation affects the administration of their respective organisations under the main theme Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR 4.0).
In this way, they will be better prepared for the management of digital disruption that exists alongside the more universal VUCA (volatile, uncertain, ambiguous and complex) condition of recent years.
The EDPSGO 2019 curriculum comprises five themes, 16 units and two roundtable sessions, through which participants will reflect on the application of theories into practice. They will work on case studies, analyse data and formulate policies that take into consideration the implication of IR 4.0.
EDPMMO provides a learning environment for the growth of critical skills for a high-performing civil service fitting into the notion of Smart Nation.
Living in the era of IR 4.0 requires a lot of changes, for example, the imminent need of transforming current systems into a digital administration.
Public officers play a vital role in building a Smart Nation and in doing so requires a deeper understanding of the needs of the citizens and formulating policies that will achieve the goals of a Smart Nation.
The objectives of the three-month programme are to develop the ability to reflect on their leadership styles and make adjustments to lead the administration of a Smart Nation in the IR 4.0, manage and mitigate risks in the process of digitisation and transformation and also to identify opportunities in the IR 4.0.
During the programme, participants will go through various modules to gain understanding of policy making for IR 4.0 and also for Smart Nation. This requires participants to write two policy papers and one poster presentation.
Overall, participants are expected to propose realistic policies that can be applied to Brunei in realising Brunei Vision 2035.
