Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad through the Department of Community Development (JAPEM) handed over financial assistance from the Government of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam to 55 families affected by floods, house fire and house collapse incidents. The assistance was handed over at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports building.
From October to December 2022, 51 houses were affected by floods.
While 34 houses in the Brunei-Muara District including in Kampong Kapok, Kampong Kilanas, Kampong Junjongan, Kampong Mulaut, Kampong Burong Lepas, Jalan Haji Halus, Perpindahan Bunut and Kampong Bunut. In the Tutong District, 14 houses were affected in Kampong Rambai, Kampong Belunu Layong, Kampong Dong Layong, Jalan Tanjong Dangar, Kampong Pengkalan Dong Layong and Kampong Kuala Abang, Layong.
In the Belait District, three homes were affected in Kampong Ratan, Labi 1, Ulu Belait and Kampong Tunggulian, Sungai Liang.
According to JAPEM, a house owned by N Naryana Samy Dhanalakshimi at Jalan Keruak, RPN Panaga, Seria in Belait District was damaged by a fire on January 8.
Meanwhile, three collapsed houses were reported on February 6 and 10 in Kampung Sungai Asam, Kampong Burong Pingai Ayer and Kampong Setia A in the Brunei-Muara District.
The handing over of the financial assistance demonstrated the caring and concern of the government towards families affected by disaster.
