The readership of the government online e-paper from Pelita Brunei has reached 54,000 in 2022, according to Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and Minister of Defence II Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof during yesterday’s 19th Legislative Council (LegCo) session.
The minister added that downloads on Android devices amounted to some 12,750, and around 8,480 IOS by October 2022. He said the Information Department had also made improvements on the technical aspects of the app from 2021 to 2022.
The introduction of the mobile app was part of an effort in moving towards a Smart Nation, the minister told LegCo member Yang Berhormat Abdul Aziz bin Haji Hamdan who queried about the app.
The minister said e-Pelita Brunei was introduced in June 2016 for easier public access, and was also in line with the trend of mobile technology and efforts to increase readership among youth.
The online initiative supports the direction of the PMO to disseminate information, he said.
