A total of 54 special need students from 18 secondary schools in six clusters participated in the semi-final of the National Cooking Competition for pre-vocational students organised by the Special Education Unit of the Ministry of Education (MoE) at Masin Secondary School yesterday.
The competition is one of the initiatives of the Special Education Unit to identify potential candidates for international cooking competitions.
Organised since 2018, the competition also aims to provide exposure for special needs students and help them master cooking skills.
Six groups of students will be selected to participate in the final stage cooking competition scheduled on November 12 at the Institute of Brunei’s Technical Education (IBTE) Sultan Saiful Rijal Campus. Finalists will be required to create three types of dishes themed ‘Happy Birthday’ and will be evaluated by judges from the Special Education Unit, and Food and Nutrition subject teachers.
The next semi-final will be held on October 17 at Katok Secondary School and on October 21 and 24 at Tanjong Maya Secondary School.
