Fifty-three students from Sayyidina Umar Al-Khattab Secondary School were feted during a BC GCE ‘O’ Level and IGCSE Excellent Student Award 2020 Ceremony at the school’s multipurpose hall yesterday.
Acting Penghulu of Mukim Lumapas Haji Suhaili bin Haji Moktar presented the certificates.
The event began with the singing of the national anthem and the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah as well as verses from Al-Quran followed by a welcoming speech from principal Sinasuria binti Haji Ibrahim.
She said 2020 marked another historical moment for the school as 36.8 per cent of students who sat for the BC GCE ‘O’ Level 2020 successfully achieved five credits and above.
The principal said all 53 students achieved five ‘O’ Level and above, while 13 outstanding students obtained A* credit and another 50 outstanding students obtained A2 credit in several subjects.
Adding on to the pride of the school, the principal said 10 of these outstanding students are those from the Miftahun Najaah Scheme, proving that financial incapability does not stop a person from realising their full potential.
The event continued with a certificate presentation by the acting penghulu to outstanding students who achieved five ‘O’ Levels and above, credit in all subjects, and achieved Grade A* and A2.
Awards were also presented to outstanding teachers, a Teacher Appreciation Award (A-C 100 per cent Outstanding Performance), Incentive Gifts for Miftahun Najaah Students, Incentive Gifts for Orphaned Students, Overall Outstanding Student Award by stream, and Overall Outstanding Student 2020.
